Frequently Asked Questions

weaving workshops

Weaving holds cultural significance as it reflects traditional practices, stories, and connections to the land for many Aboriginal communities.

In Aboriginal culture, a Yarning Circle is a traditional way of communicating and sharing knowledge. It involves people sitting in a circle, sharing stories, experiences, and wisdom. The circle represents equality, respect, and unity among participants. It's a culturally rich practice that fosters connection and understanding within the community. In modern Yarning Circles, like my Weaving and Yarning Workshops, folks from all nations are welcome to participate.

Historically in Aboriginal culture both men and women were Master Weavers. They made a variety of items essential to daily life like baskets, mats, fishing nets, fish traps and dilly bags for carrying personal items or for ceremony. Each Mob has their own set of cultural protocols to follow when it comes to Men's and Women's Business, and that is why I only guide women and young people in my weaving circles. In my mob, men are guided by other men.

From toddlers to teens and beyond, you are never too young to discover and explore the magic of weaving.

I visit early Learning Centres, Primary Schools, High Schools, Flexi-Schools and Homeschool groups, teaching young people to weave.

Common materials include raffia, native plants like pandanus, grasses, reeds, and fibrous barks, each chosen for their specific qualities and cultural relevance.

Integrate weaving workshops, storytelling sessions, and collaborative projects to provide a hands-on experience that fosters a deeper understanding of Aboriginal traditions.

If you're wanting to foster an understanding of Aboriginal culture in a respectful way, ensuring accurate representation and acknowledgment is important. Don't try and wing it with good intentions - Approach the teaching with cultural sensitivity. Seek permission and guidance from local Elders and mob who are active in your community.

Weaving can be adapted for various age groups, from early learning and primary school to higher education, with age-appropriate content and complexity.

Weaving provides a tangible way for students to engage with Aboriginal culture, fostering empathy, appreciation, and respect for diverse perspectives.

Absolutely, weaving can be incorporated into art, science (botany and ecology), history, and even mathematics (geometry and patterns), offering a multidisciplinary approach.

Invite Elders and community members to share their knowledge, stories, and skills through workshops, presentations, or collaborative projects, ensuring a respectful and reciprocal relationship.

I have weaving kits with step-by-step instructions available on my website that are excellent for students and Educators, as well as small woven baskets to enhance imaginary play. I'm also available to come and weave with young people in early learning centres, schools, homeschool groups and at community events.

100% yes! I'm passionate about sharing my story and the magic of weaving with young people.

woven & crystal jewellery

This process is different for everyone, but I always tell people to trust their intuition. The crystal that first caught your eye, that's the one you should explore. Dive deeper into that crystal's energetic properties to find answers! Most folks are then able to go on and make choices armed with their own intuitive power.

Oftentimes folks reach out with their mind already made up, convinced they need something potent and strong to survive their struggle - And sometimes that is exactly what they need. But sometimes, after looking at the pieces and listening to their first voice, they leave with something much gentler (maybe a water element crystal to help them surrender, let go and connect with the calming eb and flow of the sea.) Every person is different and every piece has it's own story to tell, but if you trust your intuition you can't go wrong.

If folks are stuck for choice, I'm always happy to help and guide them. I work in energy and colour, so I can determine the crystal that people need by interpreting the information they provide. It doesn't have to be alot of information either - Just a little about the person, their situation and what colour, energy or emotion you envision when thinking of them.

Visualise the person you are buying for when choosing the crystal. If you go in blind then you may accidently choose a gem that was calling to YOU!

I only support Australian crystal suppliers and local fossickers.

Yes, absolutely! Each piece comes with information about the crystal and some care recommendations. You can also read more about specific crystals and their meanings in the Crystal Dictionary on my website.
